Beginning a journey, building a foundation

No step is more important in your child's education than the first one. The City School District of Albany is dedicated to building a solid educational foundation for success starting with our youngest learners.

The district offers full-day prekindergarten seats to

4-year olds in all 12 elementary schools, in its bilingual Dual Language Program and at several community agencies. Click here for information about the 2016-17 prekindergarten lottery.

And in November 2015, the district expanded its prekindergarten program to 3-year-olds -- 269 for this school year -- thanks to a new state grant.

A message from the director

As a teacher, my primary focus was always the children: keeping student-centered, developmentally appropriate practice at the forefront of my work. As a leader, it is critically important for me not to lose sight of this focus.

At the end of the day, the important work we do daily is first and foremost for, and about, the children. As a leader, a teacher, a mom and lifelong learner, I have challenged myself, and will continue to throughout my professional and life journey, to do what is best for children.

Philosophy of early childhood education

The district recognizes the role parents and guardians have as a child’s first teacher and best advocate and the role early childhood programs play in the educational success of our community’s children.

By collaborating with families and early childhood programs, we hope to learn from one another build a partnership that ensures every child is ready for success.
