Albany High School senior Fern
Beetle-Moorecroft has been named the top
scholar-athlete in Section II girls’ basketball.
Beetle-Moorecroft the
scholar entered the 2009-10 school year with the
second-highest academic average in her class. Beetle-Moorecroft
the athlete was a key
contributor to Lady Falcons’ basketball this season, leading her team in
3-point shooting and averaging 8 points per game. Albany High finished
second in the Big 10, going 10-2 in conference play and 14-6 overall.
Two of Beetle-Moorecroft’s best performances on the court
came against Big 10 rivals Catholic Central and Bishop Maginn. She had
17 in the Lady Falcons’ overtime win at Catholic Central in December,
and a season-high 22, including four 3-pointers, in a home win against
Maginn in January.
She was chosen from more than 1,000 girls who played
Section II basketball this year.
She also was a leader on the Albany High cross-country
team last fall.
