Middle School Enrollment

The City School District of Albany provides middle-school programs for students in grades 6-8 in four schools: North Albany Academy, Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School, West Hill Middle School and William S. Hackett Middle School. Each school is designed around smaller learning environments that provide the most current educational and support services to help all students reach their full potential.

North Albany Academy serves students from prekindergarten through eighth grade. Hackett, Myers and West Hill middle schools serve students in grades 6-8.

Because of growing enrollment, the school district plans to convert an existing district building into a middle school to open in September 2017. Their decision stems from recommendations from the Grade Configuration Steering Committee that subsequently were approved by the Board of Education. Click here to learn more about the committee's previous recommendations and their ongoing work to recommend a long-term enrollment plan for all our middle schools.

North Albany Academy has about 150 students in grades 6-8 and enrolls its middle-school grades primarily with students graduating from its elementary program. West Hill Middle School will serve approximately 225 students who attended the now-closed Brighter Choice Middle School for Boys and Brighter Choice Middle School for Girls. Hackett and Myers both serve about 600-650 students and are enrolled through a feeder system.

Students graduating from the following elementary schools attend Myers Middle School:

  • Albany School of Humanities (ASH) -- prekindergarten-grade 6

  • Giffen Memorial Elementary School -- prekindergarten-grade 6

  • Montessori Magnet School -- prekindergarten-grade 5

  • Pine Hills Elementary School -- prekindergarten-grade 6

  • Schuyler Achievement Academy -- prekindergarten-grade 5

  • Sheridan Preparatory Academy -- prekindergarten-grade 5

Students graduating from these elementary schools attend Hackett Middle School:

  • Arbor Hill Elementary School -- prekindergarten-grade 6

  • Delaware Community School -- prekindergarten-grade 5

  • Eagle Point Elementary School -- prekindergarten-grade 6

  • New Scotland Elementary School -- prekindergarten-grade 5

  • Thomas O'Brien Academy of Science and Technology (TOAST) -- prekindergarten-grade 5

Hackett and Myers also have half-mile neighborhood enrollment zones, allowing students living within that distance to choose the closer school.

If you are uncertain which middle school your child will attend, click here to open the list of attendance zones and use "Ctrl-F" to search for your street name (e.g., First Street or Zoar Avenue).
