Oct. 17, 2016: Enrollment and demographics

  • Welcome and introduction of committee members

  • Icebreaker activity: "Personality Phrases"

  • Review of ground rules for committee work and norms

  • Recap of last month's meeting regarding seven essential elements of middle schools

  • Presentation by Dr. Butterworth on enrollment and demographics, providing a summary of the demographic study conducted by previous consultant

    • Distinguished between the concepts of projections and forecasts

    • Discussion of data sources for the study, including assumptions for the forecast

    • Summarized results and analysis of the study, emphasizing that total middle school enrollment is forecasted to increase by 18.4% (approximately 400 students) by 2020-21

    • Reviewed current and projected enrollment for district

    • Reviewed enrollment within the five planning regions throughout Albany used in the study

    • Discussed specific factors causing increased enrollment within the district, including special populations of English-language-learners and special education which will be in-depth at the Dec. 19 meeting
