About the calendar

Great things are happening in Albany's public schools. And that's partly because we have so many great students!

The 2016-17 school calendar features the faces of 25 exceptional young people in the City School District of Albany. They are but a small fraction of the outstanding students who attend our schools.

The calendar students stand out in a variety of ways. Some excel in academics, sports, fine arts, visual arts or performing arts. Other are actively involved in community service. And still other are leaders, problem-solvers and scholars, like Christhyl Tabanao of Thomas O'Brien Academy of Science and Technology (TOAST) pictured at right.

Choosing individual students to represent their school and the district always presents an enormous challenge because so many of our 9,500 kids meet the definition of exceptional. We celebrate all our students and dedicate this year's calendar to them through the achievements of the shining stars featured within its pages.

To find out what makes each student extraordinary, click on his or her name below. Scroll down to read about standouts from previous years.
