Leadership changes at Albany High

ALBANY, N.Y. (Sept. 2, 2016) -- Albany High School alum Jodi O'Connor is now operations principal of her alma mater.

The Board of Education appointed O'Connor, Class of '93, to her new position on Thursday. She will fill a position that had been vacant since January, when Michael Panetta was appointed interim principal at Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School.

O’Connor was house principal of Albany High’s Discovery Academy for the last four years. Before that, she was a substitute principal for three months at Pine Hills Elementary School and taught at the former School 19/New Scotland Elementary School from 1999-2012.

As operations principal, O’Connor will oversee implementation of the district’s new Code of Conduct and the realignment of student support at the school. She also will monitor attendance and discipline data and is responsible for the safety and welfare of students and staff.

The board also appointed Michael Elliott as interim house principal of Discovery Academy. Elliott joined the district in 2002 and taught social studies at William S. Hackett Middle School then North Albany Academy. In 2011, he moved to Albany High School and taught there for two years before becoming a building data coach then the district’s data coach.

Discovery Academy is one of four themed academies at Albany High.

The mission of the City School District of Albany is to educate and prepare all students for college and career, citizenship and life, in partnership with our diverse community. The district serves about 9,500 students in 17 elementary, middle and high schools. In addition to neighborhood schools, the district includes several magnet schools and programs, as well as other innovative academic opportunities for students, including four themed academies at Albany High School.
