Albany High jazz talent to be featured on Ch. 18 in April

ALBANY, N.Y. (March 29, 2017) -- The Albany High School Jazz Ensemble will celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month with appearances throughout April on Channel 18, one of Albany’s three public access television stations.

The ensemble will perform on the show “Albany Tempo Spectrum,” which will air at 5 p.m. Saturday. The show will run Thursday-Sunday at 5 p.m. during the rest of the month.

“Albany Tempo Spectrum” is produced by Donald Hyman, who heard the jazz ensemble perform in October and wanted them on his show. The Albany High musicians were supposed to share the bill with other acts, but Hyman was so impressed by what heard that he decided they would be the solo performers.

Pictured left to right are senior Aaron Shields, drummer; senior Noah John, clarinet player; freshman Toussaint Santicola-Jones, alto sax player; sophomore Sam Weinstein, drummer; Donald Hyman; junior Ness Anderson, baritone sax and piano player; junior Matan Adler, piano player; junior Logan Bennett, trumpet; senior Austin Smith, guitar; and teacher John Halvorsen, director.

The mission of the City School District of Albany is to educate and prepare all students for college and career, citizenship and life, in partnership with our diverse community. The district serves more than 9,600 students in 17 elementary, middle and high schools. In addition to neighborhood schools, the district includes several magnet schools and programs, as well as other innovative academic opportunities for students, including four themed academies at Albany High School.
