Albany High junior takes silver at regional
ALBANY, N.Y. (Feb. 15, 2017) – Albany High School
junior Alexandra Sipos once again played her way to the top at the 8th
Annual Rachmaninoff Piano Competition on Feb. 11 in downtown Albany.
Her nine-minute, three-movement performance of
Khachaturian’s “Sonatina 1959” earned her silver status at the event,
although succeeding in regional piano competitions is nothing new to
For the past three years, she has placed in the
Rachmaninoff, Chopin and Tchaikovsky competitions, and has received the
honor of “outstanding with distinction” at the New York State Music
Teachers Association on an annual basis since 2013.
Sipos is an active member of Albany High’s jazz
ensemble “The Jazzmanian Devils” as well as its female acapella vocal group

The mission of the City School District of
