2016-17 school year represents a fresh start for the City School
District of Albany.
Each school year provides
an opportunity for new beginnings for all of us regardless of our
age or how we spend our days. Whether we are administrators,
teachers, staff members, students, parents or guardians, it’s an
opportunity for us to reflect on what we want to do better as we all
strive for personal growth and achievement.
One of my goals in 2016-17
as interim superintendent is to have a laser focus on academic
achievement for all of our children.
When all children become
“our” children, we all see them as individuals worthy of all of our
attention, our efforts and our love as we prepare them for academic
excellence. We all need to take an interest in the success of, and
want the best for, all our children. By recognizing and accepting
our children, it means we – family members, school personnel,
neighbors, businesses and our students themselves – all are
responsible for their success.
A wise leader, Mahatma
Gandhi, once said, “A
small body of determined spirits fired by an unquenchable faith in
their mission can alter the course of history.”
We all need to be “fired
up” in our goal to raise the academic achievement of each and every
one of one of our 9,500 students. We all need to have a passion to
change the course of history for our students by helping each of
them acquire the knowledge and skills they need for their success.
Let’s make 2016-17 a great
year for our children. Together.
