Meet the Superintendent
Kimberly Young Wilkins, Ed.D., has served as the interim superintendent of the City School District of Albany since Jan. 22, 2016. Dr. Wilkins leads a diverse urban school district of approximately 9,500 students in New York state’s capital city.

An Albany native and resident, Dr. Wilkins has served the Albany community throughout her 27-year career, first as a teacher in alternative programs and at Albany High School, and, since 1996, as an administrator at the elementary and middle levels.

Prior to her appointment as interim superintendent, Dr. Wilkins served as the founding principal of Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School beginning with the 2005-06 school year. She was principal of the former School 16 (now Pine Hills Elementary School) from 2000-05. Her first administrative assignment came as an assistant principal at the former Philip Livingston Magnet Academy (grades 6-8) from 1996-2000.

Dr. Wilkins earned a doctorate in educational leadership from Sage Graduate School in 2013 and a master’s in social studies education from the State University of New York at Albany in 1993.
