After one of its strongest regular seasons in recent years, the Albany High School girls’ swimming team will send 10 student-athletes to compete in 16 events at the Section II Division I championships at Shenendehowa this weekend.

Qualifying to compete in two individual events are:

  • Freshman Maggie Carroll (200-meter freestyle and 500 free)
  • Sophomore Adina Kligerman (200 free, 100 free)
  • Sophomore Mackenzi Stevenson (200 free, 100 backstroke)
  • Junior Olivia Hampson (200 individual medley, 100 breaststroke)
  • Junior Brogan Monroe (200 IM, 100 butterfly)
  • Senior Barbara Delaney (50 free, 100 free)  

Also qualifying for sectionals in individual events are Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School eighth-grader Delia Weinstein (100 fly), freshman Kiana Yrrah Samonte (100 fly) and sophomore Faith O’Toole (100 back).

The Lady Falcons also qualified three relay teams for sectionals:

  • 200 medley relay –Carroll, Delaney, Hampson, Monroe
  • 200 free relay – Myers eighth-grader Grace VanBowen, Hampson, Monroe, Kligerman
  • 400 free relay – Delaney, Carroll, Stevenson, VanBowen  

This is the most swimmers Albany High’s girls’ team has sent to sectionals in more than a decade, as well the most events the Lady Falcons have competed in during that time. Preliminaries begin at 3:30 p.m. Friday, and finals start at 3 p.m. Saturday. Good luck to all of our student-athletes!
