Families who would like to register Albany High School student-athletes to participate in basketball, cheerleading and boys’ hockey can visit Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School on Tuesday from 3:30-8 p.m.
Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics Ashley Chapple will be available to answer questions about registration and to provide tech support.
Online registration also is available through Final Forms. Two additional forms also are required -- one that must be completed by parents and guardians, and one that must be completed by a healthcare provider. Both forms must be turned in before a student-athlete can begin practice in a high-risk sport.
On Monday, Albany County approved school districts to move ahead with sports that the state has deemed higher risk due to COVID-19. The City School District of Albany Board of Education is meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday to consider a resolution that would allow those sports to move forward for Albany High.
If the board approves the resolution, it would allow the following high-risk sports at Albany High for the rest of this school year, in addition to the regularly scheduled low- and moderate-risk sports (JV and varsity teams, unless otherwise noted):
Winter season high-risk sports (practice begins Wednesday) *
● Boys’ basketball
● Boys’ hockey (varsity only; in partnership with Niskayuna)
● Girls’ basketball
● Competitive cheerleading (varsity only)
Fall 2 season high-risk sports (practice begins March 1)
● Football
● Volleyball
Spring season high-risk sports (practice begins May 2)
● Boys’ lacrosse
* Please note that the district has made the decision not to offer wrestling this school year due to the higher risks associated with COVID-19.
