Albany High players help Mohawks advance in hockey

Albany High's Alex Doehla plays hockey for the Mohawks

Albany High School's Alexander Doehla and Matt Trippany have helped the Mohawks hockey team advance to the quarterfinals of the Capital District High School Hockey League playoffs.

Doehla, a junior (pictured at right from a game earlier this season), made 22 saves to help the Mohawks to a 6-3 first-round win over Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake/Ballston Spa on Monday. Trippany, a senior (pictured below), contributed an assist as the Mohawks won their fourth straight and their fifth in the last six games overall.

The Mohawks (8-13) now take on Shenendehowa (12-7-1) in the quarterfinals Wednesday at Clifton Park Arena. Faceoff is at 3 p.m. The Mohawks dropped a tough 4-2 decision at Shen on Jan. 5; Doehla had 54 saves in that game.

Doehla led the CDHSHL during the regular season in both save percentage (.906) and goals-against average (2.65). He recently was named a second-team Section 2 all-star.

The Mohawks are comprised of student-athletes from Albany High, Niskayuna, Amserdam and Schenectady.
