Future Special Olympians in training

Athletes and friends do an activity with a parachute

Students from Albany School of Humanities (ASH) and New Scotland Elementary School had a ball on Wednesday taking part in Special Olympics New York’s Young Athletes Experience.

Staff and students from Albany High School’s Unified Sports Program were part of the fun as well, assisting the younger set at skill-building activity stations involving running, kicking and throwing.

The event paves the way for other elementary school students to be involved in Special Olympics competitions and activities in the future.

The day ended with a pizza party. A special shoutout to our school psychologists, speech therapist, occupational therapist, physical therapist and teacher assistants who accompanied the group.

You can see a Facebook photo album of the activities here. (You don't need a Facebook account to see the photos linked in the highlighted text. A window may appear that says, "To see more from Albany City Schools on Facebook, log on or create an account,” but you can dismiss it by clicking “not now.”)
