Congratulations to coach Decky Lawson and the Albany High School girls’ basketball team on an exceptional start to the Section 2 Class AAA playoffs! The third-seeded Falcons dominated from start to finish in an impressive 73-30 quarterfinal win over No. 6 Saratoga Springs on Wednesday night.
Jasanii Francis Torres led the way with 23 points and Ny’onah Austin added 11 points – 11 players got on the score sheet as the Falcons started the game on a 29-0 run and never looked back. You can check out this story about the game from the Times Union, and more pictures on our Facebook page.
Looking ahead, the Falcons (17-4) take on No. 2 Colonie (15-5) in the semifinals Friday, March 7 at Hudson Valley Community College. Game time is 6 p.m. Tickets must be purchased via the GoFan website (there will not be a cash option at the door).
It’s a matchup of the teams that have won the last three Section 2 titles. Albany High won back-to-back championships in 2022-23, and Colonie captured the 2024 title.
Colonie is ranked No. 13 in the state, and the Falcons are No. 21. The Wolf Pack beat the Falcons 70-60 during the regular season. Let's go Falcons!
