As we begin the new school year, a reminder that the City School District of Albany strongly encourages the COVID-19 vaccine for everyone 12 and older who is eligible and able, in alignment with the guidance of federal, state and local health professionals.
Public health experts advise that vaccines reduce the spread of COVID-19 and are highly effective at preventing hospitalization and death.
The Albany County Health Department offers free vaccination clinics every weekday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The health department is located at 175 Green St. in Albany.
COVID-19 vaccines at the health department are free, and no insurance or medical paperwork is needed. All New Yorkers age 12 and older are eligible for the FDA-approved Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine; you must be 18 or older to be eligible for the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccines.
The health department welcomes walk-ins. Advance registration may save you some time, but it is not required. You can visit the health department’s COVID-19 vaccine section for details and more information.
COVID-19 vaccines also are available at local pharmacies. Please call ahead for details and to find out if you or your child age 12 or older is eligible for the vaccine being offered at a specific pharmacy location.
