The Albany High School Model UN Club on Thursday defeated students from Cohoes to advance to the next round of the county-level New York Statewide High School Mock Trial Tournament.
The match was the second victory for the Falcon team, which defeated Voorheesville on Feb. 27.
In mock trial competitions, each school is assigned the position of defense or prosecution on a real case. Students argue both sides of the case and assume the roles of attorneys and witnesses. Local judges or attorneys score teams based on preparation, performance and professionalism.
Other student teams participating in the tournament include Academy of the Holy Names, Albany Academies, Bethlehem High School, CBA, the Hudson Valley Home School Consortium and Voorheesville High School.
The next match is March 15 in the Albany County Family Court Chambers.
At the conclusion of elimination rounds in mid-April, the highest-scoring team will compete in regionals against other county winners from throughout the state. The top team from New York’s eight regions will participate in state finals May 13-15.
