Albany High School sophomore and bagpiper Delia Weinstein is part of world champion band.
Weinstein (pictured front row, third from left) is a member of the Capital District Youth Pipe Band, which just returned from the 2019 World Pipe Band Championships is Glasgow Green, Scotland. The group came home with the titles of World Champions and Best Drum Corps in their performance class.
The Capital District Youth Pipe Band competed against 20 other groups in their class. The ensemble consists of 8- to 18-year-olds that play either bagpipes or drums. Members of band hail from New York State, Vermont, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Florida.
The competition was held on Aug. 17. While the Capital District group was in Scotland, it also competed on Aug. 10 at the International Highland Games, taking second place.
As for Weinstein: when she’s not piping, she plays saxophone in Albany High School’s Wind Ensemble. Congratulations to her and her fellow musicians in the Capital District Youth Pipe Band!
