Perspectives in Online Learning: Kewsi Burgess

“My students were familiar with Google Classroom prior to the closure as it was a part of our regular instructional practice in school. However, the technology and inequitable resource divide prevented many of my scholars from fully engaging with the platform.

“Currently, students complete assignments and they receive feedback from peers and teachers. We also meet virtually once a week for a face-to-face book discussion. They continue to take ownership of their work by creating, posing and discussing questions with peers.

“I am pleased to see my students’ excitement for learning continue in spite of this crisis. My favorite part of the week is on Wednesday mornings when we see each other online, exchange greetings and laugh together. Our kids are intelligent and resilient; they are capable of doing great work as long as we provide opportunities for them to do so in a caring environment.”
