Starting Nov. 30, the City School District of Albany will offer virtual classes to help adults who didn’t finish high school prepare for the state’s high-school equivalency exam.
Test-prep classes will be held virtually from 4:30-6:30 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday.
Each student will receive personalized instruction that is tailored to meet his or her individual needs. Instruction will be by a certified teacher who works with students to overcome their challenges so they can successfully pass the exam and earn a high-school equivalency diploma.
To sign up or get more information, contact Jenny Evans at jevans1@albany.k12.ny.us or (518) 475-6071.
Class size is limited to 15. You must take a test-prep class in order to take the high-school equivalency test. A student’s level of preparedness will determine when he or she can take the test. Also, students must be over 21 years old and residents of the City of Albany.
The test, called the Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC), replaced the GED in 2002 as the only free exam leading to a high school equivalency diploma from the state. It tests student skills in reading, writing, math, science and social studies. You can learn more about TASC by visiting the State Education Department's website.
Students who pass all sections of the test will earn a high-school equivalency degree from New York State.
