Would you like your child to be bilingual and biliterate – to be able to read, write and speak in two languages?

If so, there are prekindergarten and kindergarten spots available for this September in the City School District of Albany’s Dual Language Program, which offers elementary education in English and Spanish for students in prekindergarten-grade 5.

The program is open to all City of Albany residents and based at Edmund J. O’Neal School of Excellence, located at 50 North Lark St.

Children enter this unique program speaking either English or Spanish, and they leave speaking, reading and writing in both. Each class covers a regular elementary curriculum, and students study in English and Spanish with teachers that are fluent in both languages.

Normally these classes are filled by lottery, but we are expanding the program this year and providing additional spots by application. You can apply online for a prekindergarten seat here and apply online for kindergarten seat here. Complete the appropriate application and select “Dual Language Program” as your choice.

If you have questions, please contact Dual Language Principal Rachel Stead at (518) 475-6600.
