Students in Kyle Albano’s summer Digital Audio Workstation class at Albany High School spent Tuesday and Wednesday building a recording studio set for a chamber orchestra – everything from arranging seating for musicians to placing microphones to programming the sound.
Albano’s class is one of several summer enrichment courses Albany High students can take for credit (and fun!). The six-week classes meet four times a week, four hours a day. A student who successfully completes a summer enrichment class earns the same credit as a student who takes the same class for a full year.
The Digital Audio Workstation students are learning the mechanics of building a recording studio set for a range of musical performances from rock to classical to jazz to a live session to a DJ set, along with gaining the technical savvy of sophisticated sound recording.
You can see some Facebook photos from the class. (You don't need a Facebook account to see the pictures linked in the highlighted text. A window may appear that says, “To see more from Albany City Schools on Facebook, log on or create an account,” but you can dismiss it by clicking “not now.”)
