The City School District of Albany was notified of 50 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 from Sept. 15-21.
- Eight cases are associated with Albany High School.
- One involves a person not associated with a grade who was last in school Sept. 19.
- One involves ninth grade, and the person was last in school Sept. 17.
- One involves a person not associated with a grade who was last in school Sept. 16.
- Three involve people who were last in school Sept. 14. One is not associated with a grade, one involves ninth grade and one involves 10th grade.
- One involves ninth grade, and the person was last in school Sept. 12.
- One involves 10th grade, and the person was last in school Sept. 9.
One case is associated with Albany International Center. The person is not associated with a grade and was last in school Sept. 19.
Five cases are associated with Albany School of Humanities.
- One involves kindergarten, and the person was last in school Sept. 19.
- Two involve people who were last in school Sept. 16. One is associated with kindergarten and the other is not associated with a grade.
- One involves fifth grade, and the person was last in school Sept. 15.
- One involves second grade, and the person was last in school Sept. 14.
One case is associated with fourth grade at Arbor Hill Elementary School, and the person was last in school Sept. 14.
Two cases are associated with Delaware Community School.
- One involves third grade, and the person was last in school Sept. 19.
- One involves prekindergarten, and the person was last in school Sept. 8.
Two cases are associated with Eagle Point Elementary School.
- One is not associated with a grade, and the person was last in school Sept. 19.
- One involves fourth grade, and the person was last in school Sept. 16.
Three cases are associated with Giffen Memorial Elementary School.
- One involves a person not associated with a grade who was last in school Sept. 19.
- One involves fourth grade, and the person was last in school Sept. 16.
- A third involves a person not associated with a grade who was last in school Sept. 14.
Three cases involve people at Harriet Gibbons Student Services Center. None is associated with a grade. One was last in the building Sept. 19, one Sept. 16 and one Sept. 14.
Nine cases are associated with Montessori Magnet School.
- Two were last in school Sept. 19. One involves third grade, and the other involves fifth grade.
- Five were last in school Sept. 16. One is not associated with a grade. One involves prekindergarten, another first grade, another third grade and another fifth grade.
- Two were last in school Sept. 15. One involves second grade and the other third grade.
Two cases are associated with New Scotland Elementary School.
- One involves kindergarten, and the person was last in school Sept. 16.
- One involves first grade, and the person was last in school Sept. 14.
One case involves sixth grade at North Albany Middle School, and the person was last in school Sept. 14.
Three cases are associated with Philip J. Schuyler Achievement Academy.
- Two involve people last in school Sept. 16. One is not associated with a grade; the other is associated with third grade.
- One involves third grade, and the person was last in school Sept. 14.
One case involves Pine Hills Elementary School. The person is not associated with a grade and was last in school Sept. 15.
One case is associated with fifth grade at Sheridan Preparatory Academy, and the person was last in school Sept. 20.
Two cases are associated with Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School.
- One is not associated with a grade, and the person was last in school Sept. 20.
- One involves eighth grade, and the person was last in school Sept. 16.
Three cases are associated with Tony Clement Center for Education.
- One is not associated with a grade, and the person was last in school Sept. 20.
- One involves 12th grade, and the person was last in school Sept. 19.
- One involves ninth grade, and the person was last in school Sept. 14.
The last three cases involve William S. Hackett Middle School.
- One is not associated with a grade, and the person was last in school Sept. 20.
- One involves sixth grade, and the person was last in school Sept. 13.
- One involves eighth grade, and the person was last in school Sept. 9.
Please be reminded that schools no longer are required to quarantine individuals who in the past were identified as contacts of a person who tests positive. We now identify anyone within a 6-foot radius of a positive individual as having been exposed and provide notification to that individual or, in the case of a student, their parent or guardian. We will continue to report positive cases.
Health and safety procedures continue at all district buildings and on buses, including cleaning and sanitizing. We also would like to remind everyone of steps you can take to help be safe:
1. Masks are optional in all school buildings in New York and, in our school district, on First Student buses and CDTA buses that transport students. (See Gov. Kathy Hochul’s Sept. 7 announcement that masking will now be optional in multiple settings where they were previously required, including on public transportation.) The district will respect the personal decision of all individuals and families regarding wearing masks in settings where they are optional.
2. Wash hands with soap and water frequently when out of your home. If you cannot use soap and water, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
3. Don’t touch the eyes, nose or mouth unless your hands are clean.
4. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL WHEN THEY ARE SICK OR HAVE SYMPTOMS:
- Signs of COVID-19 are fever, fatigue/tiredness, muscle/body aches or pains, congestion, cough, runny nose, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, nausea/vomiting or diarrhea, headache, loss of taste or smell, rash, feeling sick or unwell in any way.
- Please notify your school nurse if you are keeping your child home from school with symptoms; you can find that contact information on your school’s web page.
5. We continue to encourage everyone who is able and eligible to get vaccinated.
