Jan. 12-18 COVID-19 cases

City School District of Albany

The City School District of Albany was notified of of 68 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 from Jan. 12-18.

Fourteen cases are associated with Albany High School.

  • Three cases involve people last in school Jan. 17. Two are not associated with a grade, and one is associated with 12th grade.
  • Eight cases involve people last in school Jan. 13. Two are associated with 11th grade, two with 10th grade and four with ninth grade.
  • One case involves tenth grade, and the person was last in school Jan. 12.
  • One case involves 12th grade, and the person was last in school Jan. 5.
  • One case involves 12th grade, and the person was last in school Dec. 21.

Nineteen cases are associated with Albany School of Humanities (ASH).

  • Five cases involve people last in school Jan. 17. Three are associated with prekindergarten, one is associated with second grade and one is associated with fourth grade.
  • Six cases involve people last in school Jan. 13. Two are not associated with a grade, one is associated with prekindergarten, two are associated with first grade and one is associated with third grade.
  • Three cases involve people last in school Jan. 12. One is associated with kindergarten, one with third grade and one with fourth grade.
  • Two cases involve people last in school Jan. 11. One is associated with prekindergarten and the other with fourth grade.
  • Two cases involve people last in school Jan. 10. One is associated with third grade and the other with fifth grade.
  • One case involves prekindergarten, and the person was last in school Jan. 9.

One case is associated with fourth grade at Arbor Hill Elementary School, and the person was last in school Jan. 9.

Eight cases are associated with Eagle Point Elementary School.

Six cases involve people who were last in school on Jan. 13. Two are not associated with a grade, one is associated with kindergarten, one with third grade and two with fourth grade.

Four cases are associated with Edmund J. O’Neal School of Excellence.

  • Three cases involve people last in school Jan. 13. Two are not associated with a grade and one is associated with fourth grade.
  • One case involves first grade, and the person was last in school Jan. 11.

Four cases involve Giffen Memorial Elementary School, and the people were last in school Jan. 13. None of the cases is associated with a grade.

Two cases are associated with Montessori Magnet School. One involves fourth grade, and the person was last in school Jan. 13. The other involves kindergarten, and the person was last in school Jan. 9.

Two cases are associated with kindergarten at New Scotland Elementary School. One person was last in school Jan. 18 and the other Jan. 13.

One case is associated with North Albany Middle School. The person was last in school Jan. 13 and is not associated with a grade.

Two cases are associated with Pine Hills Elementary School. One involves first grade, and the person was last in school Jan. 13. The other is not associated with a particular grade, and the person was last in school Jan. 12.

Five cases are associated with Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School.

  • Three cases involve people last in school Jan. 13. One is not associated with a grade, and two are associated with seventh grade.
  • Two cases involve people last in school Jan. 12. One is not associated with a grade and the other with sixth grade.

Two cases are associated with Thomas O’Brien Academy of Science and Technology (TOAST). Both people were last in school Jan. 13. One is not associated with a grade and one involves fifth grade.

One case is associated with Tony Clement Center for Education. The person is not associated with a grade and was last in school Jan. 13.

The last case three cases are associated with William S. Hackett Middle School. All the people were last in school Jan. 13, and none is associated with a grade.

Please be reminded that schools no longer are required to quarantine individuals who in the past were identified as contacts of a person who tests positive. We now identify anyone within a 6-foot radius of a positive individual as having been exposed and provide notification to that individual or, in the case of a student, their parent or guardian. We will continue to report positive cases.

Health and safety procedures continue at all district buildings and on buses, including cleaning and sanitizing. We also would like to remind everyone of steps you can take to help be safe:

1. Masks are optional in all school buildings in New York and, in our school district, on First Student buses and CDTA buses that transport students. (See Gov. Kathy Hochul’s Sept. 7 announcement that masking will now be optional in multiple settings where they were previously required, including on public transportation.) The district will respect the personal decision of all individuals and families regarding wearing masks in settings where they are optional. 

2. Wash hands with soap and water frequently when out of your home. If you cannot use soap and water, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

3. Don’t touch the eyes, nose or mouth unless your hands are clean.

4. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL WHEN THEY ARE SICK OR HAVE SYMPTOMS:  

  • Signs of COVID-19 are fever, fatigue/tiredness, muscle/body aches or pains, congestion, cough, runny nose, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, nausea/vomiting or diarrhea, headache, loss of taste or smell, rash, feeling sick or unwell in any way. 
  • Please notify your school nurse if you are keeping your child home from school with symptoms; you can find that contact information on your school’s web page.

5. We continue to encourage everyone who is able and eligible to get vaccinated.
