The Tuesday of the first full week of May is recognized each year as Teacher Appreciation Day. While the calendar has caused some debate this year about whether Teacher Appreciation Day is May 2 or May 9, in alignment with next week's celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week, one fundamental point is beyond question: We are grateful for our teachers every single day!
In the City School District of Albany and every school setting around the world, teachers are the lifeblood of their organization’s vision and mission. Here in Albany, our teachers devote themselves to helping our students grow and succeed. They nurture our students’ academic development, and help support their social-emotional needs.
Our teachers empower students to strive to be their best selves every day, going above and beyond to help them feel valued and supported. In our collective work to build back from the COVID-19 pandemic, our teachers continue to meet every challenge.
We owe our teachers a debt of gratitude. Please join me today, next week during Teacher Appreciation Week, and all year round in thanking them for the difference they make in the lives of all of our students and throughout our community.
Sincerely,
John Yagielski
Interim Superintendent
