Drums along the Hudson

Superintendent Hochreiter loads a bass drum in the back of a car

On Wednesday, Superintendent (and percussionist!) Joseph Hochreiter donated a drum set to the Albany Fund for Education’s Instrument Donation Program for City School District of Albany students.

He handed off the drums to AFE Executive Director Mari Shopsis outside the district’s Academy Park offices.

The Instrument Donation Program collects band and orchestra instruments, instrument accessories like drumsticks and shoulder rests, and instrument cases. It refurbishes and restores the items and puts them back in the hands of our students.

Since 2014, the program has put over 500 instruments in the hands of district kids. In addition to AFE, the project is supported by Aimee Allaud, Albany Friends of Music, the Albany Musicians’ Association and John Keal Music.
