The Albany High School basketball teams are getting ready for the Section 2 playoffs, both in the new Class AAA bracket.
The girls’ team – winners of the last two Class AA titles – has a first-round bye this week. The Falcons (14-5) are ranked No. 19 in the state and No. 2 in the section behind top-seeded Shenendehowa.
Albany High will play a semifinal game against either No. 3 Shaker on Thursday, Feb. 29 at Hudson Valley Community College. Tipoff for that game is at 6 p.m.
The Falcons beat Shaker 60-54 on Dec. 12.
If the Falcons win, they will advance to the Class AAA championship game on Monday, March 4 at 8 p.m., also at Hudson Valley. They would meet the winner of Shen's matchup with No. 4 Colonie.
The boys’ team is seeded eighth in the section and opens with a quarterfinal matchup against No. 1 Colonie this Sunday, Feb. 25, at Hudson Valley. Tipoff is at 4 p.m.
The Falcons (9-11) dropped a 74-60 decision at Colonie on Jan. 9. The Garnet Raiders enter the playoffs unbeaten at 20-0.
If the Falcons win, they will take on the Shen-CBA winner in the semifinals at Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls on Feb. 29. Tipoff for that game is 8 p.m.
