Four cadets in Albany High School's Sgt. Henry Johnson Battalion Junior ROTC have been selected to attend American Legion Boys State this summer.
The students are Mohammed Almelhim, Sean Dwyer, John Gormley and Sean Keefe. All are juniors.
Boys State is a week-long program that immerses high school students in citizenship and leadership training. Students also learn the workings of local, county and state government, and they participate in physical fitness, teamwork and other activities under the guidance of American Legion counselors and U.S. Marines. Boys State programs exist in every U.S. state except Hawaii.
New York’s Boys State will be held from June 28-July 3 at SUNY Morrisville State College in Morrisville.
The Albany High students were interviewed earlier this month, and all were selected by North Albany Post 1610 of the American Legion. Their trip is being sponsored by Post 1610, as well, in addition to the Gold Star Mothers and the Tri-County Council of Vietnam Veterans.
Thanks to our community supporters, and congratulations to the four cadets!
