Mayor Kathy Sheehan and other guests joined students at Arbor Hill Elementary School on Wednesday morning to celebrate Henry Johnson Day and announce the opening of nominations for the city’s seventh annual Henry Johnson Award for Distinguished Community Service.
Nominations for the award are due by Aug. 16 at 5 p.m. You can visit the city's website to learn more about the award and how to submit nominations, as well as Sgt. Johnson's significant achievements and legacy.
You also can visit our district Facebook page to check out photos from the morning's events, which included classroom visits by members of the New York Army National Guard Color Guard who participated in the morning ceremony.
Henry Johnson Day commemorates the anniversary of Sgt. Johnson's enlistment in the Army during World War I on June 5, 1917.
