Tons of food, lots of help

We have the best community partners and an amazing district maintenance team!

On Wednesday, some 25 volunteers and maintenance staff unloaded almost six tons of food as they prepared for the first installment of the Summer Weekend Food Program.

Through mid-August, the program will provide a weekend’s worth of nutritious food to 420 families living with food insecurity.

A huge thank you to the volunteers and staff all who made it happen!

And special shout-outs to Mari Shopsis and the Albany Fund For Education, which supports the program in partnership with the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, Bimbo Bakeries USA’s Albany plant, which donated a wealth of bread and other goodies, the Homeless and Travelers Aid Society, which loaned us one of their trucks to help deliver all 11,860 pounds of food, Pine Hills Elementary School for being the staging area for the program all summer, and Community Engagement Coordinator Cathy Edmondson for pulling it all together!
