Summer music lessons keep students in the groove

Three students practice a song on their violins

Elementary-, middle- and high-school maestros are staying on top of their craft while school is out, thanks to band and strings lessons the City School District of Albany is offering through its Summer Arts Program.

On Wednesday morning, orchestra teachers Anthony Berman and Cameron Newman practiced with a string quartet of brothers Saw Yoshee, Saw Joesph and Daniel Theinplus and friend Kyaw Zin Thant, while band teacher Mark Sudano and a trio of elementary trumpeters polished their skills on the horn.

Orchestra lessons happen Wednesday and Thursday between 9 a.m. and noon, while band lessons occur Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-noon.
