Our new building name is now official!

Attendees celebrate the unveiling of the new building sign for Albany International Academy

It’s official – the vibrant school community at 50 Lark St. is now Albany International Academy!

The school celebrated the name change Thursday evening with the unveiling of its new signs at the main entrance. Superintendent Joseph Hochreiter and Principal Rachel Stead offered remarks about the name change, as did former Dual Language Program student Maya Proffitt, now a sixth-grader at William S. Hackett Middle School.

Translators also helped attendees enjoy the event in Arabic, Dari, Pashto and Spanish.

Albany International Academy is home to the Dual Language Program, one of the City School District of Albany’s 12 elementary schools, and the Newcomer Program, which serves English-language learners from kindergarten through grade 12.

We hope everyone will join us for our next big AIA announcement, too – the celebration of the building’s new playground next Wednesday, Sept. 4, from 4-6 p.m.

Looking forward to seeing everyone when the new school year begins Friday, Sept. 6 (or Monday, Sept. 9 for returning Newcomer students in grades 6-12)!
