Collection-inspired student art on display at Empire State Plaza

The 16th annual K-8 Empire State Plaza Art Collection Exhibit is open for viewing and features more than 1,100 pieces from 17 area districts, including the City School District of Albany.

Our students' artwork (examples seen here) will be displayed on the South Concourse, closest to the Madison Avenue entrance through March 23. All three middle schools and all 12 elementary schools are represented in the show.

The exhibit is inspired by artwork from the Empire State Plaza Collection, which consists of 92 works of abstract expressionist art both in, and around, the plaza.

"This event is one of a kind as it it the only Capital Region exhibition for K-8 students," said the City School District of Albany's Fine Arts Supervisor, Kate Wright.

"It is an opportunity for students to showcase how their art was inspired."

The opening reception, on March 13 at 5:30 p.m., will include keynote speaker Jade Warrick of TrashKiD Art.

The K-8 exhibit is held in conjunction with National Youth Art Month and is sponsored by the New York State Office of General Services, Capital Area Art Supervisors and the New York State Art Teachers' Association.
