Riptide is on a roll!

Today, Albany High's FIRST Robotics Team 1493 dove into the Tech Valley Regional hosted at the MVP arena!

FIRST Robotics is an annual international high school robotics competition, and our Falcons are currently competing against more than 55 teams from across New York state and Quebec in the ocean-themed competition REEFSCAPE presented by Haas Game Animation.

Throughout today and tomorrow morning, Albany High's team will enter the competition arena with "Riptide" the robot for nine different elimination matches with the hopes to continue on to the playoffs, which will be held the afternoon of Saturday, March 29.

Twenty-eight Falcons are participating in the competition, and they have a variety of roles, all which synergize together to make "Riptide" score coral, harvest algae and attach to the barge in the ocean-themed game!

In the competition arena this morning, it was thrilling to see our Falcons face their competition with determination and grit. Team captain Karly Grant is serving as the driver, Amani Waxman as the operator and Stanley Cornell as the human player.

Between each match, our Falcons return to the pit to charge batteries, make equipment adjustments and strategize for their next match.

We want to give a big shout out to our incredible club advisors and mentors who have guided and supported our Falcons this school year: Richard Kissane, Kevin Allen, Brent Cady, Andre Castagna and Allen Landman.

Let's go Falcons!
