The City School District of Albany invites all community members to provide feedback on its proposed 2018-19 District-Wide School Safety Plan over the next month.
You can download the plan in.pdf format for review. Please use our Feedback form to send us your comments on the plan by Thursday, Oct. 4. The Board of Education also will review and discuss the plan at its Sept. 13 meeting, which will be held at Giffen Memorial Elementary School beginning at 7 p.m.
After reviewing feedback from the community, the board will consider the proposal for adoption at its Oct. 4 meeting at Sheridan Preparatory Academy, also at 7 p.m.
New York requires districts to develop district-wide safety plans to prevent or minimize the effects of serious incidents and emergencies, and to facilitate a coordinated response to such incidents with local and county resources. The district-wide plan is consistent with the more detailed emergency-response plans developed at the school level.
District-wide safety plans are developed under the state’s Project SAVE program – Safe Schools Against Violence in Education. Project SAVE is a comprehensive planning effort that addresses prevention, response, and recovery with respect to a variety of emergencies in each school district and its schools.
The mission of the City School District of Albanyis to work in partnership with our diverse community to engage every learner in a robust educational program designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary for success. The district serves about 9,500 students in 18 elementary, middle and high schools. In addition to neighborhood schools, the district includes several magnet schools and programs, as well as other innovative academic opportunities for students, including four themed academies at Albany High School.
