The National Association of Secondary School Principals has awarded a $2,850 National Honor Society scholarship to Albany High School senior Alexandra Sipos.
Sipos was chosen as a semifinalist winner from more than 11,000 scholarship applicants and is considered to be among the top 500 National Honor Society members in the country. She was among 27 semifinalists selected in New York chosen based on their application essay, leadership skills, participation in service organizations and clubs, and academic record.
In addition to taking numerous Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses at Albany High, Sipos studied two foreign languages and is a member of the Albany High jazz ensemble and choir. She is president of the Theatre Ensemble Board and active in school drama productions. She also was varsity soccer captain, a member of Key Club and Masterminds, an academic tutor at a local refugee center and founder of several service projects.
She is involved in her church’s music ministry, and for nearly a decade played classical piano for senior citizens at nursing and retirement homes in her community. This fall, she plans to attend Middlebury College.
The mission of the City School District of Albany is to work in partnership with our diverse community to engage every learner in a robust educational program designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary for success. The district serves more 9,600 students in 18 elementary, middle and high schools. In addition to neighborhood schools, the district includes several magnet schools and programs, as well as other innovative academic opportunities for students, including four themed academies at Albany High School.
