Albany High's Geography Bee

Geography Bee

Students at Albany High School assembled in the library after school to test their knowledge of spaces, places and natural features during the Geography Bee on Feb. 27.

The geographical contest is a student-run event created by junior Adam Aleksic. Aleksic organized and promoted the bee, wrote the questions and co-hosted with Albany High staff members Liz Gialanella and Sean Fitzsimons, who also provided guidance throughout the process.

Aleksic created the event during his sophomore year, and lists raising geographical awareness among peers as his top motivation, along with a lifelong fascination with the subject of geography.

After 90 minutes of good-natured and increasingly difficult competition, sophomore Ezra Jones (pictured center) claimed first place, with seniors Ian Boldiston (pictured on left) and Jack Berry (pictured on right) finishing second and third, respectively.
