'Sweet Charity' gets five award nominations

five award nominations

The Albany High School Theatre Ensemble’s March production of “Sweet Charity” has earned five nominations for the regional 2019 High School Musical Theatre Awards, including a nod for best actress for the second year in a row for Annabelle Duffy.

Other nominations include a best supporting actress nomination for Sania Cooper for her portrayal of Helene and best technical execution, best student orchestra and best choreography execution nominations.

Duffy (pictured at right as Charity) won best actress in 2018 for her performance in the Theatre Ensemble’s production of “Hairspray.” She went on to represent the Capital Region last June at the National High School Musical Theatre Awards.

The awards ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. on May 11 at Proctors, located at 432 State St. in Schenectady. Albany High is one of 30 area schools participating in the ceremony, which is coordinated by the School of the Performing Arts at Proctors.

Congratulations to the Theatre Ensemble, and break a leg on May 11!
