Summer school begins Monday, July 8
Albany High School’s graduation rate increased to 68 percent in 2018, the school’s fifth consecutive year with an increase and its highest rate since the state started measuring graduation under its current methodology in 2005.
The Class of 2018’s four-year graduation rate surpassed the 65 percent rate for Albany High's Class of 2017, according to data the State Education Department released Wednesday. The 68 percent rate also represents a 36 percent increase since Albany High’s 50 percent graduation rate for the Class of 2010. The graduation rate is measured by the number of students graduating in four years following the August Regents exams.
“We are pleased that our graduation rate continues to rise steadily and significantly, and I congratulate our administrators, teachers and support staff as well as our students and families for the hard work that has put Albany High School on this upward trajectory," said Superintendent Kaweeda G. Adams. “At the same time, we realize we have more work to do. We will remain focused on our mission to provide equitable opportunities for all students to reach their potential.”
The superintendent cited Albany High's strong focus on individual student data to drive instructional decisions, and the district's investment in a wide range of social-emotional supports for students as leading factors in the increased student success.
