Albany High inducts 93 into National Honor Society

A total of 93 academic superstars were inducted into Albany High School's Arista Chapter of the National Honor Society on Tuesday and 25 of those students received class awards.

The students, all juniors, are eligible for National Honor Society because each has maintained an overall academic average of 89.5 or higher.

The National Honor Society was founded in 1921 to help create a better-rounded student who would be willing to put his or her talents to work serving others in society. Albany High’s Arista Chapter was formed in 1957 and admitted 15 students in its first group of inductees.

The following awards were presented Tuesday:

  • Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award – Kevin Thomas
  • Bay Path College Presidential Book Award – Aine Haugh
  • Bryn Mawr Presidential Book Award – Emma Russell
  • Harvard Book Prize – Piro Gusho
  • RIT Creativity and Innovation Award – Gilad Asal and Janara Delima
  • RIT Computing Medal – Alexander Casciotti and Danielle Farleigh
  • RPI Award – Jason Eveleth
  • Student Sage Scholar Award – Su Meh and Claire Patnaude
  • University of Rochester Frederick Douglas and Susan B. Anthony Award – Jennifer Powell
  • University of Rochester Xerox Award for Innovation and Information Technology – Adam Aleksic

The mission of the City School District of Albany is to work in partnership with our diverse community to engage every learner in a robust educational program designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary for success. The district serves more 9,600 students in 18 elementary, middle and high schools. In addition to neighborhood schools, the district includes several magnet schools and programs, as well as other innovative academic opportunities for students, including four themed academies at Albany High School.
