Summer school begins Monday, July 8
Albany High School media artists fared well Tuesday at the Capital Region Media Arts Festival, with junior Erik Smits placing first in the category “Photography: The Human Figure/Portrait” for his photo called Storm Cloud.

Freshman Aeonna Marsico-Von Lutz earned third place in the “Design: Digital Illustration” category with Julia.
And sophomore Sophia Doehla earned three honorable mentions: one in “Experimental/Video Art” for her video Drawing, one in “Animation” Stop Action: for her video Paper Brains and one in “Design: Digital Fine Art” for Quicksand.
Senior Briola Nugent also earned an honorable mention in “Experimental Video: Art” for The Scenic Life.
Sixteen Albany High artists submitted a total of 20 pieces for the exhibit. Their artwork was among 177 pieces submitted to the exhibit by 15 schools. Judging the exhibit were a local graphic designer and art professionals from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s Department of the Arts.
The Capital Region Media Arts Festival is sponsored by the Capital Area Arts Supervisors and the New York State Art Teachers Association. It was held at Niskayuna High School

The mission of the City School District of Albany is to educate and prepare all students for college and career, citizenship and life, in partnership with our diverse community. The district serves approximately 9,500 students in 18 elementary, middle and high schools. In addition to neighborhood schools, the district includes several magnet schools and programs, as well as other innovative academic opportunities for students, including four themed academies at Albany High School.
