Albany High School will have a distance learning day Friday as a precautionary measure following Thursday’s security incident.

All high school students should plan to login to their Google Classroom at the start of first period Friday and follow their regular schedule for the full school day. Friday’s distance learning day includes all classes at Abrookin Career and Technical Center.

The Albany Police Department has arrested one individual following the altercation late Thursday morning in which a student and staff member sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Albany High put lockdown security measures in place at about 11:45 a.m. due to a report of an individual with a weapon inside the building. The Albany Police Department and emergency medical personnel responded immediately.

Police arrested one student and recovered a knife.

The incident began as a fight between two students. A hall monitor was injured attempting to break up the fight, sustaining a concussion and a minor laceration. One student also sustained a minor laceration. Both individuals were transported to Albany Medical Center for treatment.

Albany High shifted from lockown procedures to precautionary hold-in-place procedures at about 12:50 p.m., and dismissed all students at 1:30 p.m. Night School at Abrookin Career and Technical Center also was cancelled Thursday, and Albany High's food pantry was closed Thursday afternoon.

The City School District of Albany is continuing to investigate this matter in partnership with Albany police.
