Due to logistical challenges posed by COVID-19 and the lack of an appropriate performance space, Albany High School will not be holding a spring musical this year.
However, the Promising Playwrights Festival, which showcases student writing performed by student actors, will be held in May.
Albany High's ongoing rebuilding and renovation project includes a new and improved auditorium that is currently under reconstruction. A full-size theater is required to stage a musical on the large scale of Albany High Theatre Ensemble productions. Renovations will be complete this fall, and “Once on This Island” will be performed in the new auditorium in 2023.
The school district is working to secure an appropriate venue for the smaller-scale Promising Playwrights Festival. Under the direction of Aaron Moore, students will audition in April for the Promising Playwrights Fest, with performances May 20-22. Interested students should keep an eye out for the audition meeting and other updates.
