Attention juniors and seniors: The League of Women Voters of Albany County is holding a “Get Out the Youth Vote” video competition for high school juniors and seniors, with a scholarship prize of $500 for the winner.

Students are asked to submit a two-to-six-minute video that includes at least one of the following:

  • Explanation of the voting process and student voter eligibility;
  • How to register to vote;
  • How to vote and the options for voting; and/or
  • The importance of young people’s votes in a democracy.

The contest is open to high school juniors and seniors from public, private and home schools in Albany County. Apply at LWVAlbany.org. All videos are due by Sunday, May 15.

Videos may be live action, animated or a hybrid of both, and they should be no longer than six minutes. Submissions will be judged by the ability to convey information to a youth audience as well as visual and artistic appeal.

The winning student will be awarded a $500 scholarship prize, and their video will be distributed to high schools in Albany County and beyond for use in youth voter education.

Students may refer to the Albany County League of Women Voters or New York State League of Women Voters for pertinent information on voting in Albany County.
