New student entry, campus traffic procedures begin May 9

Starting this Monday, May 9, the building entrances for most Albany High School students will change to the east side of campus, off Washington Avenue near the turf athletic field. The change is due to increased construction activity on the west side of the building, near the North Main Avenue parking lot.

Parents and guardians will not be allowed to drive onto campus at arrival (7:45-8:45 a.m.) or dismissal (3-3:45 p.m.) to drop off or pick up students. This applies to both the North Main Avenue entrance and the one-way Washington Avenue access road entrance. Parents and guardians dropping off or picking up in these timeframes can do so at the curbside along Washington Avenue, or in the Washington Avenue parking lot.

The new building entry points for students in the morning will be:

  • Discovery and Leadership students -- Building 2, Tower 4 (the new academic building)
  • Citizenship and Innovation students -- Building 3, Tower 3 (the new music and art building)
  • Self-contained special education students -- There will be no changes to building entry.
    • Self-contained special education students will continue to be dropped off and picked up at Building 1, Tower 2 (the old academic building). First Student buses will enter campus using the one-way Washington Avenue access road and drive around the building to this location.
    • Parents and guardians of self-contained special education students who drop off or pick up their students can continue to use the North Main Avenue entrance.

CDTA tripper buses will drop off students in the new location each morning. CDTA procedures at dismissal will remain unchanged.

Students dropped off on Washington Avenue in the morning can use the one-way access road to access the appropriate building entrance. Students arriving late (after 9 a.m.) should continue to enter school through Building 1, Tower 2.

Please watch for signs about these changes. Staff also will be available to assist as we adjust to these new procedures.
