The following message is from Albany High School Principal Jodi Commerford:
An Albany High School student was being treated for serious injuries at Albany Medical Center on Thursday evening after being hit by a car outside school at dismissal.
The student, a ninth-grader, was hit while crossing Washington Avenue. Emergency responders transported him to Albany Med for evaluation and care.
Our thoughts are with this young man and his family after this frightening accident. I am grateful to everyone who responded so quickly to come to his aid, including members of our school staff, the Albany police and emergency medical personnel.
The accident happened while many students, employees and other members of the Albany High community were outside the building at the end of the school day. A traumatic event such as this impacting someone we care about can affect students in so many ways. Now, or in the coming days, weeks or even months, your child may have a variety of feelings.
Our crisis response specialists will be available at school throughout the day Friday and will remain available at school for any students or employees who would like to talk to someone or need additional support.
You may also use the resources linked below to support you children at home. We ask that everyone remain sensitive and respectful to all who may be impacted by this incident.
If you have concerns about your child, please let a teacher, staff member or administrator know. In addition to our Student Support Team members in each academy, we have clinicians ready to support our students.
