No school Monday – Albany High School and the City School District of Albany will be closed on Monday in recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. School will be back on its regular schedule on Tuesday.

Info session next Wednesday: Suicide prevention – Parent University will present a virtual via Zoom workshop next Wednesday at 7 p.m. about common risk factors and warning signs associated with suicide, and how to keep yourself and others safe. Learn more.
Financial aid help session next Thursday – The Guidance Department will host two working sessions for seniors and families needing assistance completing applications for the Free Application for Student Aid, or FAFSA, and the Tuition Assistance Program, or TAP – both of which help determine whether a student is eligible for college financial aid. Sessions are next Thursday and Feb. 15; registration required. Learn more.
Regents exams Jan. 23-26 – We will administer Regents exams in several subjects Tuesday, Jan. 23 through Friday, Jan. 26. Students should report to school only if they are taking a Regents (get an exam schedule) or are signed up for the Online Success Center (see below).

Volunteer at sports concession stand – The Albany Booster Club is seeking adult volunteers to staff the concession stand during home athletic games. Learn more and sign up.
In the food pantry – The school food pantry behind the Citizenship Office is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:45-5:30 p.m. or by appointment. Specials next week: mustard, buffalo wing sauce, SpaghettiOs, cornflakes, popcorn, potatoes, marinating and braising beef, blackened Cajun rub steaks, boneless skinless chicken breasts, Atlantic salmon, pork chops and a variety of granola bars.
Attention sophomores and juniors and their families –On Jan. 24, the Guidance Department will host a College Information Night for 10th and 11th-grade families in the auditorium at 6 p.m. The event will include an overview of the college search and application process. Anyone who is considering post-high school education, whether it is at a four-year or two-year college, a business college, or technical school should attend. Learn more.
Blood drive coming Jan. 31 – January is National Blood Donor Month, and Albany High School will do its part to help build lifesaving blood supplies when it holds a community blood donation drive from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. in the library. Learn more.
Celebrate Lunar New Yearwith us – All are welcome to attend a Lunar New Year Celebration sponsored by the Chinese Club and the Chinese Community Center. For $1, you can eat traditional dishes, make traditional artwork and take part in traditional games. The event is Feb. 3 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Learn more.

Leaving school – Albany High School is a closed campus. Students are not allowed to leave campus for any reason without parent permission. This includes during lunch and study hall. If a student has an appointment, i.e. doctor, medical, family matter, etc., they must have a note or phone call from a parent giving permission to leave. All students also must be signed out by a parent in order to leave school grounds. Students who leave campus without a valid reason will not be allowed to re-enter without parent contact.
Traveling to and from Abrookin – All students must take the bus to and from Abrookin Career and Technical Center and the main campus for any classes. This will prevent students from being late and having to go back through security, and ensure student safety. Students who do not take the bus will not be allowed to re-enter without parent contact. The bus is available at Building 2, Stair 2-2 and at the Abrookin entrance.
