Accompany James Chaney through the hallways of Albany High School, and you’ll see him greet every person who crosses his path with a smile, high-five or hug.
So it’s no surprise that New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) recently named him the statewide 2024 School Related Professional Member of the Year.

Chaney joined the City School District of Albany as a teaching assistant in October 2011 at the former Philip Livingston Magnet Academy. He worked at Philip Schuyler Achievement Academy (now Roots Academy at West Hill), Eagle Point Elementary School and Montessori Magnet School before joining team Albany High in September 2023.
He is a graduate of ITT Technical Institute and considers himself a lifelong learner.
