Greetings, Falcon families!

News of the week

  • Falcon 5K – We loved seeing so many Falcon staff, students and families at the Albany Booster Club’s 10th Falcon 5K and Fun Run on Oct. 6! Kudos to booster club President Trish Cellemme, Falcon 5K host and MC Dean Choudhri and all the volunteers and participants for making this event a great success.
     
  • The Albany Prize  – Ten students from Albany High interested in science research participated in a memorable two-day experience at Albany Medical Center this week. It was thrilling for them to attend lectures by esteemed scientists and witness them receive The Albany Prize.
     
  • Sports Highlights – Our girls’ varsity volleyball team had a victorious night on the home court on Thursday, Oct. 10, beating Averill Park 3-2. Also, we are thrilled to share we have a livestream option via Hudl for our sports on the Albany High turf (soccer, football, lacrosse and track), as well as in the Albany High gym (volleyball and basketball).
     
  • Parent-teacher conferences – Our fall parent-teacher conferences are on Oct. 24 and 25. We encourage parents/guardians to view the schedule and sign-up instructions from Principal Jodi Commerford. 
     
  • PSAT deadline is Oct. 23 - Albany High School will administer the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT) on Friday, Oct. 25 at 8:30 a.m. There is no school this day due to staff development and parent-teacher conferences. Any sophomore or junior may take the test. Register using this link. The cost is $18 and must be submitted by Oct 23.
     
  • Free Tutoring – Understanding and completing assignments can be overwhelming for students. Our tutors are here to help! Visit our website for more details.
     
  • Vote For Daaron  – Daaron Harrell was nominated for the Heart of a Giant Award. Let's show our support for Daaron and cast our votes. You don’t have to create an account or enter your contact information to vote.
     
  • Financial aid night – On Thursday, Oct. 17 at 6 p.m., the Albany High School Guidance Department will host an event to support seniors and their families as they navigate the college financial aid process. 
     
  • Free cosmetology clinic – This week, our Albany High cosmetology students had a soft launch of their free clinic program, offering 15 different services to Albany residents ages 55+. Visit our website to learn more about this wonderful service to our local community.
     
  • Senior photos – Our next round of senior photos for the yearbook will be Dec. 9-12. Visit our website for additional information.

Important reminders
 

  • The Albany Booster Club (ABC) needs your help – Please considering signing up for a concession stand shift during the fall season. In addition to student-athletes, the ABC funds: author visits, our food pantry, marching band, robotics, indoor percussion, Junior ROTC and many more organizations and groups that make our district special!
     
  • Student parking update – Juniors and seniors may now apply online for limited spots in the Washington Avenue lot. Learn more and link to the parking application.
     
  • Visitor parking – Any visitors who park in the Washington Avenue lot should only park in the designated parking spaces and should not park on the yellow crosshatched lines.
