Leaders in literacy

Albany High student reading to elementary student

On Tuesday, two of our New Scotland Elementary School classes enjoyed a visit from six Albany High students for a festive read-aloud activity.

Each elementary student was assigned a "reading buddy" who read a variety of titles aloud, ranging from holiday stories to everyday favorites. Seeing the children's eyes light up with joy as they listened to the stories and looked at the illustrations was such a treat!

All of the Albany High students who participated in the read-aloud activity are currently taking Specialized Reading, so this was a wonderful opportunity to apply the skills they have been developing. We are proud of them for being leaders in literacy and for inspiring younger students in the City School District of Albany to develop a love for reading!

This activity was made possible by the collaboration of three amazing educators: Albany High teacher Erin Reeve and New Scotland Elementary teachers Dawn Abrams and Kristina Smith.
